"If it doesn't bring you income, inspiration, or orgasms, it doesn't belong in your life." ~ Jordan Belfort.
What would you do in exchange for money and status? I am asking this, of course, as a rhetorical question. Man has been answering this very explicitly for the past century. And capitalism speaks for itself. But why?... This was a rhetorical question as well.
The Wolf of Wall Street is biographical black comedy exploring the character and career of stockbroker Jordan Belfort aka. The wolf of wall street. A 3-hour course of money, greed, drugs, sex, crime, corruption, FBI, and New York city.
A Masterclass of filmmaking and direction. Impeccable writing and editing, and an A cast. Using the narration narrative style, and breaking the fourth wall (two of my most favorite, and the most compelling cinematic tools), The Wolf of Wall Street does not let go of you, not for one moment. A top-notch humor and entertainment.
And with the ruthlessly persuasive and eloquent speeches, emerging outstandingly into character, narrating the film himself, and the never failing actor-director partnership with Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio brings out, in my personal opinion, the best performance of his career.
The film earned numerous awards and recognition worldwide, the least of which is a Guinness World Record for the most instances of swearing words in a motion picture.
I remember walking into theater in December 2013 to watch the highly anticipated Martin Scorsese's 3-hour picture. Only to walk out after 2 and a half. 30 minutes of the film were cut off the original runtime because of explicit scenes of swearing, religious profanity, drug use, graphic nudity and excessive sex. Because some dignified individuals thought were inappropriate for my Middle Eastern moral compass. Nonetheless, it was an exhilarating experience, I can't think of a theater experience where I laughed so hard, that this was the first film I had gone and watched in theater twice.
