"... Here's to the ones who dream

Foolish as they may seem

Here's to the hearts that ache

Here's to the mess we make..."

La La Land is a romantic comedy-drama musical following Sebastian and Mia, a passionate jazz pianist and an aspiring actress, as they fall in love while pursuing their dreams in LA.

La La Land is masterpiece of sight and sound. A reassurance that true cinema is still alive and in great shape. A blend of the magic of modern day and the charm of old school.

The colorful cinematography, the vibrant choreography and dance sequences, the chemistry between Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, the exhilarating long-takes, the nostalgic set design, and the heartfelt relatable story. La La Land is mesmerizing from whichever aspect you look at it.

Damien Chazelle writes and directs a ballad of a generation. A perfect balance between the glamorous dreams and the harsh reality of life. Crafting with art what can't be crafted in the real dimensional world.

Justin Hurwitz, Chazelle's life-long collaborator, friend, and Harvard colleague, composed and orchestrated the sensational score and the euphoric list songs that would make a timeless album of soundtracks.

La La Land is an homage to LA, to everyone out there who's passionate and have a dream, and to every great musical ever filmed. A musical that takes inspiration from a number of great musicals such as Singin' in the Rain and those of Jacques Demy's (especially The Umbrellas of Cherbourg) and outdoes all of them by a mile.

Honorable mention:Singin' in the Rain (1952)
