- Written and directed by Martin McDonagh
- Music by Carter Burwell
*SPOILER FREE
When life comes into collision with the afterlife. When art borderlines the crime and the punishment. When shooting and sightseeing in conjunction. When In Bruges.
In Bruges is a black-comedy crime drama following Ray, an Irish hitman who's burdened with guilt after accidentally killing a young boy during a mission, and his mentor as they're both sent to Bruges by their ruthless boss to hide.
Set and filmed in Bruges, Belgium, one of the most well-preserved medieval cities in Europe. In Bruges is an aesthetic meditation on the human morality.
This is Martin McDonagh's debut feature. The Irish writer and director, with only three feature films to his name (the 4th of which is my most anticipated film of this year), sets himself up as one of the greatest filmmakers of the 21st century with one of the finest masterpieces of the 2000s.
With top-notch performances by Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes, Shakespearean screenwriting, genuis original score by Carter Burwell, climactic action, and surreal ambiguity. This is black comedy at its finest.
Nerdwriter1 eloquently reflects on the morality of In Bruges in this video https://youtu.be/r_9mLu1kMA8 .. I highly recommend listening to this AFTER watching the film as it is a complete spoiler.
