"The pure always act from love, the damned always act from love, the truth is an act of love."
Good Time is a crime-drama thriller following two brothers, Connie and Nick, who try and rob a bank in NYC. Nick, mentally disabled, gets arrested and Connie tries everything to pay his bail and free him while being hunted down by the police.
This is love story of a different kind, a cinematic twisted pleasure. This is a riveting, restless experience into the night and while causing you to feel the exact opposite of which, this is a good time.
The Safdie Brothers took independent cinema to a whole new level of character building, crafted chaos and adrenalized pacing, and aliveness.
Robert Pattinson brought his A game to the screen. He disappears into the role that I seriously doubted it was actually him.
Benny Safdie is electrifying as the younger, developmentally disabled brother brought a exuberance of emotions to the narrative in his first supporting role. The man can write, direct, edit and act.
Good Time is a masterful filmmaking Oddessy with a distinctive visual style, thrilling yet emotionally packed and moving.
Benny and Josh would go on after that to write and direct the 2019 phenomenon Uncut Gems starring Adam Sandler who gave his best performance since 2002's Punch-Drunk Love. Another carefully crafted masterpiece.
Honorable mention: Uncut Gems (2019)
