Zodiac (2007)

*SPOILER FREE

Zodiac is a crime-mystery thriller following a detective, a cartoonist, and a journalist on their involvement in tracking down and manhunt of the Zodiac killer, a serial murderer who terrorized San Francisco during the late 1960s and early 1970s...

Exhilarating narrative and astounding performances. This is a perfectly constructed, edited and directed motion picture about the horrific true events and America's most elusive killer.

Zodiac brilliant filmmaking plays with your psychology better than most horror-genred films out there. Keeps you invested in the prolonged storyline and the lengthy film itself, you are constantly intrigued by where it is going to go next, and even very obsessed that you want to be there and do anything that might help catch that psychopathic bastard.

The attention to every detail and historical accuracy, from re-creating period-accurate San Francisco to narrating the exact same lines and demonstration as occurred on the crime scenes as perceived by the Zodiac survivors.

David Fincher is more known for his 1995 crime mystery 'Se7en', a very compelling story about two detectives and a serial-killer who uses the 7 deadly sins as motivation for his crimes, it messes with everything inside of you and there's no question it is a masterpiece. But if Se7en was the most masterful fictional serial-killer crime drama, Zodiac is the most masterful factual one.

Zodiac is also often compared to /take inspiration from the 2003 South Korean crime thriller 'Memories of Murder' by Bong Joon-ho, another gemstone of cinema about a real-life murderer on the loose.

This is an excellent video article by The Cinema Cartography that explores both Memories of Murder and Zodiac (SPOILER): https://youtu.be/o0DotIqOD-E
