Children of Heaven

*SPOILER FREE

If you have had any interest in film and film criticism, cared about hearing a critic's review of a film or watch a teaser trailer before watching a film, you'd probably heard the word "triumph". As most film critics and cinephiles tend to use it to describe the overall thrill after watching a moving and touching motion picture, how it inspired them, transformed them, and above all else, how it made them feel. I, myself, would often use it to express my appreciation for the elite of the elite, the films that have illuminated and enlightened me. However, if I had to use the word "triumph" to describe only one film, it'd be Children of Heaven.

Children of Heaven is family drama following Ali and his sister Zahra, two children to a poor family living in an underprivileged Tehran neighborhood. One day Ali loses his sister's only pair of shoes after repairing them. Ali and Zahra have to solve the misfortune without letting their poor father and ill mother.

This is about as sentimental as cinema - especially Iranian cinema - can be. A sensational story about the essence of childhood by the sensational Majid Majidi.

Simple and minimal yet astoundingly profound and spiritually poetic. This melodrama of relationships and the human connection is for everyone.

You have never seen such child-acting. Compelling, realist, and admirable.

Children of Heaven is a heartwarming song of love and innocence, a sincere love letter for the children of the world, the children of heaven.
