Once Upon a Time in the West (1968)

*SPOILER FREE

Once upon a time there was a harmonica, and once upon a time there was a west.

Once Upon a Time in the West is an epic western following a beautiful window that hires an outlaw and a mystery man with a harmonica to help protect her and her land from a ruthless assassin working for the railroad.

The old west, the vengeance story, the silence, the suspense, the shootouts, the dialog, the music, and the passion. This is a spaghetti western at its finest.

Legendary Sergio Leone takes the genre that he invented and mastered to even farther extends and creates a paradise of cinema that's as timeless as the west.

The score by Ennio Morricone is, arguably, the greatest ever written for a western picture by the, undisputedly, greatest western film composer. Relatable pieces were written to each of the main characters as well as to the spirit of the American west. Composed before shooting had started, and played in the background for the actors on the set for maximum atmospheric results.

Once Upon a Time in the West is an operatic masterpiece of Italian American cinema that's amusing and thrilling as it is artistic.
