Co-written and directed by Bong Joon-ho

*SPOILER FREE

In the year 2019 in the world of art, culture, politics and economics there was the little South Korean film Parasite and there was everything else.

Parasite is a black-comedy thriller-drama following the Kim family, unemployed father, mother, sister and son who live in a basement apartment in a busy lower working class suburb, as they scheme the wealthy Park family for jobs.

This is a story about class discrimination, greed and the contrast between the rich and the poor, this is a social satire on capitalism and inequality.

This is South Korean cinema at its finest, a multilayered narrative of crime, mystery, thriller, and drama. A cinema of symbolism, this is a metaphorical work of art of sight and sound.

Bong Joon-ho redefined the fundamentals of storytelling and entertainment through telling a story of craftsmanship where his viewers, the expert and the amateur, are setting with with both jaws open, having no idea where it's going to go next.

The story is narrated in parallel lines through the ingenious cinematography, impeccable editing, and sensational music... Parasite defies the physics of cinema where parallel lines eventually meet.

Parasite had devoured the most prestigious film awards in the year it was released and the year after from the Palm d'Or at Cannes to almost every category it was nominated for at the Oscar's, making way and directing more attention to international cinema.

Parasite is an instant masterpiece of world cinema, a portrait of storytelling - one knows it in their heart after watching it - that it doesn't need to take the test of time.
