"There's more to life than a little money, you know. Don'tcha know that? And here ya are, and it's a beautiful day."
Fargo is black-comedy crime drama following Jerry Lundegaard, an executive sales manager who's desperate for money, as he hires two criminals to kidnap his wife in order to extort a ransom from her wealthy father. Police chief, Marge Gunderson, gets involved in an investigation of the gone-wrong plan.
This is a shakespearen tale of morality, greed, and violence, a bizarre satire on the human troubled condition.
The Coen Brothers draw a fine thin line between comedy and tragedy in this genre-bending cinematic masterpiece, where you are haunted in the bittersweet gray area of both worlds.
Breathtaking snowy-white landscape cinematography by Roger Deakins, enchanting music by Carter Burwell, impeccable writing and direction, compelling story and dark humor. This is as captivating as filmmaking can and should be.
Frances McDormand, who's part was written for her, takes over the screen in her seamlessly fresh "Minnesota nice" performance as the pregnant sheriff.
Fargo is a work of artistic craftsmanship that despite its darkness keeps you coming back to its charm, it remains a classic comic thriller of 20th century cinema.
