Little Women (2019)

- Written for the screen and directed by Greta Gerwig

"Women, they have minds, and they have souls, as well as just hearts. And they've got ambition, and they've got talent, as well as just beauty. I'm so sick of people saying that love is just all a woman is fit for."
Little Women is a period romantic drama set in 19th century Massachusetts and follows the lives of the March sisters - Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth - four sisters who are full of life, ambitious, and determined to live life each on her own terms.
This is a tale of four sisters on the threshold of womanhood, a feminine and playful energy, and an unconventional, authentic romance.
Greta Gerwig - my favorite American female filmmaker - poetically adapts the classical novel "Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott into a lighthearted non-linear narrative. This is her second directorial feature after her original debut Lady Bird, another coming-of-age modern masterpiece.
Saoirse Ronan as Jo March, alongside an ensemble of talented female actors, pushes the bar even further on her second collaboration with Greta Gerwig.
Set and shot in Massachusetts, French cinematographer Yorick Le Saux breathtakingly captures every scene in this intimate motion picture, from the spectacular countryside to the warm and cozy close-ups.
Little Women is a contemporary work of art about women, dedicated to women, and told by a woman.
Honorable mention: Lady Bird (2017)
