*SPOILER FREE
If there can only be one artist in the domain of visual arts and storytelling in the world, my vote will go to Terrance Malick.
The Tree of Life is an art-house existential drama following Jack O'Brian, a middle-aged man, as he recalls his childhood memories and the events that shaped him, searches for the meaning of life and questions the existence of faith.
This is a cinematic meditation on the beginning and meaning of life, good and evil, nature and grace. This is philosophical and theological hypnoticism made with poetic, minimal dialog.
It would be unfair to judge The Tree of Life like any other other film or in any specific genre. Terrance Malick, especially in this work of art, is a genre of filmmaking on his own.
This is the type of film that would give you back what you bring into it.
Terrance Malick takes you on a spiritual journey of marvel, a quest for wonder and curiosity from outer cosmic space to the inner cells of earthly organisms.
Cinematography by Emmanuel Lubezki transcends above and beyond story and dialog so marvelously that you're far deeper into the narrative, you are part of it.
The Tree of Life is a modern phenomenon, a cinematic true masterpiece that doesn't comply with the conventional ways of storytelling and filmmaking.
There's absolutely no other feature film in 21st century cinema more deserving of the best screening quality. Premium setting and copy of the film are essential for premium experience.
